File this Under "Bad Idea"
This sounds great to the legions of sun-deprived, Magic playing, comic fanboys that want to see Hollywood become the soap box of the "See, we are into cool s*t" crowd. Here's the problem... Marvel is cool... but as of a couple of years ago, and I'm talking after Spider-Man and X-Men their stock was still in the under $1 range. Literally. They just signed up for $525 million in debt that these movies they're making are going to have to pay back. Captain America, the movie? F*K yes. I'll catch that at the theater. No worries. Ant-Man, however... that's not filling my heart with hope. Seriously, I work at a video store, and the number of comic based movies is getting ridiculous... Man-thing was the most recent, and a straight to video release to boot. Oh, and it was based on a Marvel book too... What. The. F**K?
Doesn't the world have enough comic inspired movies right now? The X-Men flicks, Spider-Man, Daredevil, Elektra, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Road to Perdition, Hulk, Batman, Man-thing, Fantastic Four... These are all comic (or graphic novel) based movies. What we need right now, from Hollywood is an action movie that doesn't suck. Now, don't get me wrong... I adore action movies that suck. But, what we need is the next Die Hard. The new Flying Mous... ... Batman flick was great. And it didn't suck. In fact it was really very good. Now we need a really good action flick that isn't based on intellectual property that's 50 years old.
